Crawford has been in the ski coaching business for more than forty years and has worked at every level from training young children up to elite athletes on the United States Ski Team (USST). He has worked in all areas of the country in ski club programs, and in specialized ski academies. He’s had two tours of duty with the USST, first as a C team coach and then moving up as the Head B Team, Europa Cup Coach. On his second tour he worked as the Rocky/Central Regional coach in the USST’s National Development System. Crawford’s occupation has taken him all around the world and opened his mind to the possibilities a young person can learn in this sport. In the last years, Crawford has been coaching a private team in Aspen (Team Geronimo), Created Butte Academy, Ski and Snowboard Club Vail, and most recently at Team Summit Colorado. He is most proud that he has recently sent two of his athletes to the World Junior Championships with the USST. Rachael DesRoachers (2017) and Abigail Murer (2018). This year he also qualified and sent five of his Team Summit athletes to both the Senior and Junior National Championships in Sun Valley, Idaho.
Crawford is Level 500 Master Coach with the United States Ski Coaches Association (USSCA). In 1996 he was honored and recognized as USST’s Domestic Coach of the Year. That same year he was also recognized by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) as Skiing’s Domestic Coach of the Year. Only one other professional ski coach in the US has been recognized and honored by these two organizations. Crawford is most proud of his Certification in Primary Movements Teaching System (PMTS) and is working to achieve the highest level in PMTS Certification. He is working with the founders of PMTS to develop a specific Alpine Race Coach’s Certification. While with the USST he was also Certified Level 1 in PSIA training. Twice he has been on the staff of the USSCA’s Coach’s College. One of his most famous protégées, Erik Scholpy, was just recently inducted into the National Ski Hall of Fame, class of 2014.
Crawford graduated from the University of Oregon, with Bachelor of Fine Art’s Degree.
